Ready for a new hot water heater for your Sacramento home or office?

Is it time to replace that old water heater?

Is it noisy?

Does it take forever to get hot water?

Does your water heater pilot keep going out?

Is the water heater leaking around the base?

Just a few symptoms that can mean it time to get a new water heater. At this point, most of us wonder…

What brand? What size, and how do I save money and energy?

To start, your new water heater should satisfy your hot water needs and use as little energy as possible. The normal size for a residential water heater in Sacramento is 40 or 50 gallons. The overall capacity of a hot water heater should be based on the number of occupants and the peak hour water demand, not on the size of the house. The water heater should provide enough hot water at the busiest time of the day. Also consider the number of plumbing fixtures you have in the home. The more sinks you have, the greater the demand for hot water.

Hot Water Heater

The capability of a water heater to meet peak demands for hot water is indicated by its “first hour rating.” This rating accounts for the effects of tank size and the speed by which cold water is heated.
The energy efficiency of a water heater is indicated by its energy factor (EF), an overall efficiency based on the use of 64 gallons of hot water per day. The most efficient gas-fired water heaters have energy factors ranging from 0.58 to 0.65. The most efficient electric water heaters have energy factors ranging between 0.90 and 0.95. The higher the energy factor the more efficient the model.
Water heaters with high energy factor ratings may cost more initially but save energy and money in the long run. Eventually, they will pay for themselves through a lifetime of energy savings.

Quick recovery water heaters

Quick recovery water heaters effectively offer homeowners more capacity for the same size tank. Because standby losses are greater with a larger tank, a quick recovery water heater is more energy efficient-than a standard recovery model with the same first-hour rating. The added capacity can be very attractive to homeowners who have no problem using more than 40 gallons per shower! Often space limitations preclude a larger water heater, making quick recovery the best option for homeowners who want hot water for purposes beyond long showers.

Water heater accessories

In Sacramento some water heaters and gas valves have combined to give us some great accessories. You can get more hot water for the money, higher efficiency, energy savings, operational programmability, leak detection and automatic shut off of incoming water supply.
One of our favorite options available is the operational programmability. Most new water heaters will only lose about 1/2-1 degree per hour, that’s an average of only eight to ten degrees per night. So why are we heating that water all night? Are you gone all day, while that water heater spends your hard earned money? Now you have the power to heat that water only when you want to.
Our Crystal Blue Plumbing technicians are trained to match your hot water usage to a water heater that will supply your required hot water demand. At the same time they will provide you options to lower your energy and ultimately lower your costs to heat your water.
We serve home owners and businesses in the Sacramento area including, but not limited to, the towns and cities of Sacramento, Auburn, Cameron Park, Carmichael, Citrus Heights, Davis, El Dorado Hills, Elk Grove, Fair Oaks, Folsom, Loomis, Rancho Cordova, Rocklin, Roseville, Woodland and all points in between.
