Heat & Energy Recovery Ventilators
Heat and Energy Recovery Ventilators in Sacramento, CA
Modern homes face a challenge when it comes to proper ventilation: allowing fresh air indoors also means bringing in hotter or cooler temperatures that have a negative impact on energy efficiency. If you want fresh air coming into your home on a 90°F day, would you throw open the windows? Probably not, since this would make your house too hot. Keeping the air conditioner running to combat the heat would cost an enormous amount of money. The reverse is true on cold days.
But Crystal Blue Plumbing, Heating & Air can offer you a way around this “fresh air vs. energy efficiency” dilemma. Our technicians can install a heat recovery or energy recovery ventilator into your HVAC system. These ventilation devices permit fresh air indoors while recovering the energy that might be lost in the process and using it to help keep the house cool or warm. How ERV and HRV Systems Work
An energy recovery ventilator (ERV) and heat recovery ventilator (HRV) work in similar fashions. They are integrated into the ductwork of a home, where they draw fresh outdoor currents into the ventilation system and then either pre–heat or pre–cool this air.
Where does the HRV/ERV get the energy to do this job? It takes it from the conditioned air already in the house, essentially “recovering” the energy used to either heat or cool it. A counter–current of air taken from inside the house is passed through the incoming outside air. If the outside air is cold, it gains heat and warms up; if it’s warm, it loses heat and cools down. So no matter if it’s a cold or hot day, an HRV or ERV system can help you.
Benefits of Professionally Installed ERV and HRV Systems
The biggest advantage of having one of these recovery systems in your house is that it permits you to enjoy fresher air without placing extra strain on either your cooling or heating system. HRVs and ERVs recover more than 80% of the energy that would otherwise be lost to open windows and doors and uses it to pre–heat or pre–cool the fresh air. Since the majority of homes today have poor indoor air quality because they lack ventilation, installation of one of these systems can make a huge difference in the air in your home—and consequently the comfort and health of your family.
By the way, there are some differences between heat and energy recovery ventilators. It’s best to let our professionals make the choice about which one will best serve your household.
